Camping at Norway Beach

Last weekend Kaarin, Jeremy, Emily and Sarah came up to go camping. I was SOOO excited to see them since we havent been to the cities since the middle of May. The weather was not the best camping weather, but luckily, the trees are so dense at that campground that the wind was blocked almost the entire time. We went down to the lake saturday morning, but the wind was so crazy that it didnt last too long. Ryann had some new rain boots from Kaarin that she loved wearing and was running in the water with them on. They would fill up with water and then weigh her down as she walked. Water would splash out of them with every step. It was comical. She also got to hold sparklers for the first time and she LOVED them! She wasn't afraid of them at all. So, the weekend was pretty fun (except my bad attitude saturday night, but we'll all forget about that soon enough) even with crummy weather. Now I am eager to go to the cities to see everyone again. Sometimes it really sucks living so far away from my friends and family, but Brett really loves living up here and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Anyways, here are some pics of our first camping trip of the summer:

hiding out under the rain shelter, playing uno
ryann and jeremy
kaarin and her god-daughter
brett lighting sparklers
ryann and her sexy rain boots with her swim suit. it was a good look for her!
trying to nap in the hammock
chance clearing away pine needles for a spot to lay down
me and ryann
the huge log jeremy threw on the fire- it smoked for a day and a half

Anna, I didn't feel like filling up Lindsey's blog with more of what has unfortunately turned into a needless hot headed debate but I think you know the answer to your own question because I already explained situations where I think it is necessary for a mom to work. That, of course, would not be unbiblical.
And did I ever once say the words that it is wrong to enjoy yourself, enjoy God's creation, or get out of the house once in awhile? Of course not. I do those things all the time! I volunteer every week with a pro-life ministry and if my husband can't watch the kids, then there's a nice lady who can. I know it's important for me to be a part of this ministry right now and so I will go as long as I'm able. I never said that we can't EVER leave our kids. I was just challenging people to question their hearts and motivations before going to work and trust in the Lord to meet their needs.
You're taking what I said and turning it into something it isn't. I was simply stating that I think there is a God honoring way to raise families and that I believe He can mold us into being what He wants us to be if we are willing. Can you argue with that?
I respect you as a person and fellow mom even if I don't agree with you on certain topics and don't think this needs to turn into a war. Be careful that you don't read into what people are saying -- you often take a comment and twist it into something that wasn't even said and use it in self defense. For instance, someone says that stay at home mothering is the best option and then you respond by saying that working moms are not bad moms. Nobody ever said they were!
Just take things as they are and please don't misunderstand me or my intentions. I truly wish you the best in your mothering and may God bless your family.

I'm sorry -- I'm really not trying to be a pest and fill up your blog but I just wanted to say that I've been thinking about what I said and felt the need to apologize if my words came out sounding too harsh. So I'm sorry and felt I needed to ask for your forgiveness for that.
I know it can be good to "debate" issues with people as long as it stays friendly but maybe I'll stay out of the hot button issues from now on. :) Okay have a good day

Thanks for your response and we will have to agree to disagree I guess. We are certainly worlds apart in our way of thinking and I used to say the exact same things you do and while there isn't a black and white on everything, I think there certainly is in some circumstances.
I have many, many Christian friends that work outside the home and I love them dearly and don't go around telling them what to do. But when the topic is brought up and I'm invited to discuss it, I will say what I think. I apologized to you because I thought it may have come out harshly even though I still stand by what I said.
Sometimes I think it is easy to get caught up in the "there are lots of ways to do things right" way of thinking but the more I read what Jesus says, the more I don't see it that way. He told people the truth, even when they didn't like it and didn't want to hear it. We are told to preach the gospel and not water down truth in the process. I'm not worried about giving a people pleasing message -- I am concerned with stating the truth in love. My idea of truth and yours are obviously very different and that's the way it is I guess.
Remember, Jesus was often seen as very narrow minded -- after all, He claimed to be the Messiah and said that he is the ONLY way to God -- not that there were many ways and that we all can do things differently.
The word "judgemental" is often thrown around but being judgemental means that you are telling someone to do something that you yourself should be doing but are not. It's not being judgemental when we speak God's truth.
Of course salvation is a different topic than parenting but let's just keep in mind that there IS truth out there and we can't always be giving a people pleasing message. We wouldn't be doing any non-Christian a favor in that. Sometimes the truth is convicting and people don't like it.

So as long as you enjoy a good debate -- I wanted to respond to what you just said. :)

Hey Anna,
Thanks so much for buying some of my things! :) First off, how many of each would you like? I can bring them to Peppercorn, and you can send me a check or have money waiting there. Whatever works! Sounds great! You really encouraged me today.. :)
